Course 1:

Getting Association Strategy Right

In this video series, I provide a primer on successful association strategy chunked down into 3-8 minute pieces. It includes my unique 7-step model that I use as my internal guide when working with my CEO clients on their strategies.

I love strategy.

Why? Because association strategy provides escape velocity, the ability to break free of your current gravitational field and achieve new heights. These heights can be measured in three ways:
  1. Growth - increase membership, revenue or market penetration
  2. Relevance - ensure your members and potential members know that to stay current, be the first to know, they must belong to your organization
  3. Market Leadership - dominate in your niche, be the go-to organization for the mission impact you provide

What is covered?

I will show you how to use my unique 7-step model to develop the strategy that will take your organization to unprecedented heights. Curious? Here are the seven steps:

  1. Step 1 - Gathering Market Intelligence
  2. Step 2 - Gathering Member Intelligence
  3. Step 3 - Identifying Opportunities and Challenges
  4. Step 4 - Assessing the Organizational Capacity
  5. Step 5 - the Board Meeting
  6. Step 6 - Creating the Strategic Plan document
  7. Step 7 - Creating the Operational Game Plan

My unique approach uses this model. But it also relies on two unique viewpoints on what makes a great association strategy that will be included in all the content:

  1. Visionary Leadership - identifying unique value in the future and how to draw it to you so that you become a unique purveyor of its value to your members and partners in ways that create undeniable value. Your contribution will benefit the world at large.
  2. Creating a Social Movement - I believe strategies are executed most effectively when there is an internal desire to see success happens. I'll infuse throughout this course tips on how to create a buzz that infuses your board, staff, members and partners with the enthusiasm to drive results.
I am the author of two books, which has led to speaking engagements at hundreds of conferences. I've spoken with thousands of business leaders. They've taught me everything I know--and I'll be folding all of this knowledge into this online course.
